Nathaniel Broughton

As an internet entrepreneur and marketing professional, Nathaniel Broughton, a native of St. Louis, Missouri, has created a career from an early interest in marketing and investment. Besides his marketing firm, Growth Partner, and a nationwide surety bond agency at, Broughton continues to plan for future projects, but said all his success has come from a trial and error work ethic.

What experiences led to the entrepreneurial success you are today?

In college I began working for a four-year-old business called Show-Me Tickets. At the time, it was still a relatively small company being run out of a bedroom. Brant Bukowsky, one of the co-founding brothers, acted as my mentor and began to teach me the marketing aspect of the company. I was able to help out as the company grew into a $20 million business. Ultimately, my early experience at Show-Me Tickets made me realize the potential and the accessibility of a successful internet company.

As an online marketing expert, is online marketing more than just on page SEO?

Definitely. Although on-page SEO is always one key aspect of online marketing, link building and copywriting are also crucially important.  Over the years, I’ve spent a lot of time building links to improve site rankings. Solid on-page SEO is a great starting point, but isn’t sufficient without good content and back links as well.

What role does social networking play in online marketing?

It depends on the business. Large, recognizable companies can definitely benefit from having a Facebook or Twitter connecting with potential customers. For smaller businesses, it’s never going to lead to a really substantial percentage of business, but might bring in some sales that otherwise would have been missed. Moving forward, there is some indication that social media and SEO are starting to merge. In the next couple years, social media connections may start to yield results on par with backlinks today.

How important are domain names in online marketing?

Acquiring the right domain name can save a company a lot of work down the line. The more relevant the domain name to the niche, the better. A good domain name can give you a huge head start, build up your credibility, and is almost always worth the upfront cost. If you try to save money up front and enter a market with a less-than-great domain, it’s going to require a lot more work and investment in the future.

While Broughton is far from settling on one entrepreneur endeavor, he will continue to focus on his growing company. For more information on Broughton visit

  5. If the foundation of a building is not perfect or good enough, it is obvious that it can fall at any time. Similarly, if your on site SEO is not good you are not likely to achieve good ranking no matter how much off page SEO you do. I know off page SEO does require a lot of work than on page SEO and this is the reason why people less care about on page SEO.

I do have to agree with Nathaniel when he says that on-page SEO is important as well as link building and off-page SEO.. However, I am led to believe that in the coming days of the almighty “Google” search engine, on-page SEO is becoming even more critical than it has ever been in the past… Great information Nathaniel, thanks!

I totally agree with Nathaniel. On-page SEO is crucial, but off-page SEO in terms of link building is way more important.

As a matter of fact, I believe that’s my biggest mistake in terms of SEO. I spent way too much time adding content to my websites believing that was the only thing the SE’s were looking for.

But I was obviously wrong. They never moved in the SERP. Then I started building links and I’m still doing so today.

To anyone reading this: focus more on your off-page SEO than on your on-page SEO. Really.
